Turpentine (MTO) is a volatile, flammable solvent derived from the distillation of resin obtained from pine trees. “MTO” typically stands for Medium Terpene Oil, a grade of turpentine used in industrial and chemical applications. It is valued for its solvent properties, quick evaporation, and compatibility with oils and resins.
Key Properties:Chemical type: Natural terpene mixture, primarily α-pinene and β-pinene
Appearance: Clear, colorless to pale yellow liquid
Odor: Characteristic strong pine-like odor
Boiling point: 150–180 °C (depending on grade)
Solubility: Insoluble in water; miscible with oils, resins, and organic solvents
Volatility: Highly volatile, evaporates quickly at room temperature
Paints and coatings: As a solvent for oil-based paints, varnishes, and enamels.
Chemical industry: Raw material for camphor, synthetic resins, and terpene-based chemicals.
Rubber and adhesives: Used as a solvent in adhesives, rubber processing, and sealants.
Cleaning agent: Removes grease, oil, and resin residues.
Natural and renewable solvent.
Excellent solvency for resins and oils.
Evaporates quickly, leaving minimal residue.
Highly flammable; store away from heat and open flames.
Can cause skin and eye irritation; inhalation of vapors may cause dizziness or respiratory irritation.
